The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Monday removed the social media coordinator responsible for a controversial post targeting Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant from the party’s official X account.
The post went viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism, before it was deleted. The KPCC subsequently removed the person responsible from the position.
In a statement, KPCC president Sunny Joseph said the post had been published without the knowledge, consent or consultation of the party leadership.
“The KPCC will examine the circumstances under which such a post was made,” Joseph said.
He said the Congress did not question the impartiality of the judiciary, adding that social media posts expressing views contrary to this position did not reflect the stand of the KPCC leadership.
The post immediately drew sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), who accused the party of attempting to intimidate the judiciary.
Rijiju also shared a screenshot of the deleted post and criticised the Congress. He said he had previously warned that the judiciary would be the party’s next target.
“Congress wants to destroy all the constitutional and democratic institutions of India. All Anti-India gangs are joining hands. All patriotic Indians will also come together,” Rijiju said in a post on X.
