Vlogger Amrit Singh Darren, who courted trouble with misleading and communal remarks about Keralam, has moved for anticipatory bail.
Darren, who is understood to be from Uttar Pradesh, has filed the bail application at the Sessions Court in Ernakulam as he faces multiple cases, including one registered by the state government.
Several members of the public, including Fort Kochi-based lawyer Razeem Rasheed, also filed cases against Darren. He was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 353(2) and 192. Section 353(2), which is connected to publishing and circulating false information with intent to cause public fear or alarm, is a non-bailable offence.
Darren, who goes by the social media name 'littichokha_up _ ', had posted a video in which he spread misinformation about an artwork featuring Mahatma Gandhi and Muhammad Ali Jinnah at the Kashi Art Cafe in Fort Kochi.
He also claimed that the majority of the population in Fort Kochi was Muslims and that beef was the common food served in the tourist destination. The controversial post is no longer visible on his Insta handle.
The vlogger is absconding and had posted a story on Instagram on the weekend, claiming he was exploring legal remedies. He had also put out a misleading and allegedly hateful post about Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram.
