What if your next holiday stop was not a historic monument or a theme park, but a former factory transformed into a bustling world of food, culture and entertainment?
That is the idea behind Meixin No. 2 Foreigner Street, a newly opened tourism complex in Chongqing, southwest China, where an old industrial site has been given a colourful second life.
Located in Ba’nan District, the complex blends factory operations with cultural tourism, turning former industrial spaces into attractions and workshops into places to shop, eat and explore.
The concept appears to be striking a chord with visitors. During the National Day holiday, the complex recorded nearly 100,000 visitor trips a day during its first four days of opening.
Visitors can wander through exhibition halls, explore commercial streets and experience an immersive factory-themed hot-pot zone, alongside a range of entertainment options.
Instead of leaving its industrial past behind, the project has made that past part of the attraction — offering visitors a chance to experience Chongqing through a different lens.
Here, the factory floor is no longer simply a workplace. It has become part of the holiday.
