The ambitious Digital India programme completed 11 years on Wednesday.
The programme, launched on 1 July 2015, has helped in transforming India digitally, laying the foundation for several innovations and breakthroughs.
The programme has brought about remarkable transformations in varied sectors such as governance, healthcare, education, banking and welfare delivery. It has expanded digital access and built one of the world's largest Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) ecosystems.
On the eleventh anniversary of the launch of the programme, India government, through a Press Information Bureau (PIB) backgrounder, recounted various initiatives that have been established and/or strengthened through Digital India scheme. Initiatives including Unified Payments Interface (UPI), DigiLocker, BharatNet, UMANG and eSanjeevani have improved access to public services, making lives easier for millions of Indians.
Digital India also strengthened India’s capabilities in Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing and cybersecurity. The programme remains one of the key factors driving India towards the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The the next phase of Digital India will focus on expanding digital inclusion, strengthening Artificial Intelligence capabilities, enhancing cybersecurity and supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
