Nagpur-based start-up JSR Dynamics Pvt Ltd developed the weapon in collaboration with Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) under the Development-cum-Production Partner model, highlighting public-private synergy in India's defence sector.
Glide bombs work completely differently from cruise missiles. They do not use propulsion, rather they work on aerodynamic lift to move. The mass production is cheaper.
Their ability to deliver explosives over long distances makes them suitable for destroying runways, hardened shelters and command centres.
More than 1,000 Khagantak units are projected to enter IAF service by 2026. The induction would help close a critical capability gap in which imported glide bombs have dominated.
