A drug addict attempted to attack Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee with a knife, alleged party national spokesperson Saket Gokhale in a post on X on Tuesday.

Gokhale said that a complaint has been filed regarding the incident.

A copy of the complaint filed at the Kalighat police station alleges that "Tannishtha Saha, a Civic Volunteer and a drug addict...attacked Smt. Banerjee with a knife."

The complaint also alleged that the woman, in an intoxicated state, was hurling abusive languages and claimed to be Banerjee's niece.

Gokhale remarked that even a three-time chief minister with Z+ protection is not safe in Bengal and asked whether the incident was a planned conspiracy by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Gokhale further commented whether the attempted attack was sanctioned by Amit Shah.
