Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani was discharged from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi on Monday after his health improved, the hospital said.

The 98-year-old leader was admitted on October 16 with a chest infection and was kept in the intensive care unit (ICU) under close medical observation.

Advani was under the care of Dr Vinit Suri, senior consultant in neurology, and showed improvement in his medical condition, according to the hospital.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda visited Advani during his hospitalisation and enquired about his health.

Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, also expressed concern over the veteran leader’s condition and wished him a speedy recovery in a post on X.

“Deeply concerned to learn of the hospitalisation of our revered statesman, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister, Shri Lal Krishna Advani Ji, due to a chest infection. May Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath bestow upon him strength, resilience, and swift recovery, so that he may continue to inspire the nation with his wisdom and guidance,” Singh Deo wrote.

Advani served as BJP president on multiple occasions and was India’s Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004. He played a key role in the party’s rise as a major national political force over several decades.

His hospitalisation had prompted messages of concern and wishes for his recovery from political leaders across the country.
