Thiruvananthapuram: P K Sreemathi, K K Shailaja and Veena George, who held health portfolios in the LDF government, criticised Health Minister K Muraleedharan. P K Sreemathi criticised Muraleedharan, saying he was a health minister who treated everything lightly and that problems began when he took charge.

The health sector made remarkable achievements over the past ten years. It was a period during which achievements were made that everyone could be proud of. Criticism was never viewed with hostility. The commitment to the people was fulfilled. The conditions in hospitals changed over the past few years. That was how the department functioned, P K Sreemathi said.

Sreemathi said the new health minister treated everything lightly and that the media, which had praised the UDF, was now sharply criticising the health department. She said the criticism was based on facts and was substantive.

There are no doctors in many places, and medicines are unavailable, she said. Things must be done with a sense of justice, she added, saying that several measures would have to be corrected.
