New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have been released from Tihar Jail after a Special Executive Magistrate ruled that further judicial custody was unnecessary.

The release came after the two leaders submitted written undertakings to maintain peace and refrain from organising protests at Jantar Mantar, which remains officially de-notified as a protest site. Their legal team also tendered an unconditional verbal apology over earlier media statements, assuring the court that such conduct would not be repeated.

The Delhi Police had sought a further extension of their custody. Das and Ranka were detained following allegations that they entered the restricted protest site and violated the applicable restrictions.

After walking out of Tihar Jail, the two leaders were seen holding the national flag and raising patriotic slogans. Saurav Das declared that 'truth has triumphed', while CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke welcomed their release and reaffirmed his support for the leaders.

Dipke also shared photographs and videos of the released leaders on social media, reiterating the movement’s demand for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Their release comes amid continuing protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The case has drawn attention to the restrictions governing demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and the wider dispute over the right to peaceful protest.

However, the legal proceedings are not entirely over. A separate case involving Das and Ranka has been transferred to the Delhi Police Crime Branch for further investigation, leaving the matter open to further developments.
