Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram International Airport here handled a record 444 metric tonnes of domestic cargo in October, registering a 9.4 per cent increase over its previous monthly high.

The volume surpassed the previous record of 406 MT recorded in June 2026, with an additional 38 MT handled during the month, according to a statement issued by the airport on Tuesday.

The record performance reflects growing demand for air cargo services from Kerala and increased participation of businesses, courier operators and logistics partners in the airport's domestic cargo network, it said.

Mobile phones emerged as one of the major commodities contributing to the growth, with shipments arriving in larger numbers from Delhi. The trend is expected to continue, supported by rising demand and logistics movements, it said.

The airport also witnessed a significant increase in the movement of optical lenses from Mumbai.

A logistics partner has started routing these consignments through Thiruvananthapuram, resulting in a growth of over 145 per cent in lens cargo movement, it said.

Courier and consolidated cargo operations have also gained momentum, with some agencies commencing outbound consolidated cargo operations directly from Thiruvananthapuram instead of routing them through Kochi. Inbound consolidated cargo volumes have also increased.

Post Office Mail (P.O. Mail) recorded growth in both inbound and outbound movements, which is expected to continue in the coming months, the statement said.

Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad emerged as the top five domestic destinations and origin markets for cargo movement, underlining the airport's growing connectivity with major commercial and logistics hubs in the country.

The record performance reflects growing confidence among businesses and logistics partners in the airport, a spokesperson said.

The commencement of EXIM operations at Vizhinjam International Seaport is expected to create fresh opportunities for the region's logistics sector.

The growing synergy between the seaport and the airport is also expected to strengthen multimodal cargo connectivity, generate additional demand for domestic air cargo movement and position the region as an emerging integrated logistics hub.

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is managed by TRV (Kerala) International Airport Limited (TIAL), a special purpose vehicle under Adani Airport Holdings Limited.
