Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai added India’s ninth gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 after winning the trap mixed team event in Nagoya on Wednesday. The Indian pair shot a score of 34 in the final to set a new continental record. They had qualified for the final in fourth position.
Qatar’s Mohammed Al-Rumaihi and Ray Bassil claimed the silver medal with a score of 32, while China’s Qi Ying and Sun Yunong settled for bronze after finishing with 23.
This was India’s third gold medal of the day, after the compound mixed archery pair of Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav, and the women’s compound archery team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha and Prithika Pradeep, also struck gold.
The gold medal was Chenai’s third Asian Games medal. He had previously won gold in the men’s trap team event and bronze in the individual trap event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. For Dhanda, the victory capped a memorable campaign in Nagoya, with the 26-year-old now having won three medals at the Asian Games.

The 26-year-old Dhanda claimed her second gold medal at the Asian Games 2026. On Tuesday, she became the first Indian woman shooter to win an individual trap medal at the Asian Games after clinching gold in the women’s individual trap event with an Asian record. She also became India’s first-ever individual medallist in women’s trap at the Asian Games. India’s previous individual gold in the trap event came in 1978, when Randhir Singh won the men’s title.
Dhanda had also won silver in the women’s team trap event alongside Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat. The Indian team finished with a combined score of 328 to finish behind China, who recorded 346. Earlier this year, Dhanda won gold in the women’s trap event at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup 2026 in Lonato, Italy. It was her first individual medal at an ISSF World Cup and the second World Cup medal of her career.
India’s medal tally
India now have nine gold, 21 silver and 26 bronze medals at the Asian Games 2026. At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, India finished fourth with a record 107 medals, including 28 gold.
