India continued their medal-winning run on Day 2 of the 2026 Asian Para Games, with Deepthi Jeevanji claiming gold in the women’s 400m T20 event in a Games-record time of 56.36 seconds. The 2024 Paris Paralympic bronze medallist successfully defended her title, having won gold in the same event at the 2024 edition. This is the 23-year-old’s third Asian Para Games medal with the victory having also won bronze in the same event earlier.

Japan’s Niina Kanno finished second in 58.92 seconds to take silver, while compatriot Akane Kato claimed bronze in 1:00.26. The T20 classification is for athletes with intellectual impairments, which can affect information processing, concentration and the execution of race plans or tactical strategies.

Pradeep, Manish and Ashok add silver medals

India’s Pradeep Kumar claimed silver in the men’s javelin throw F53/54 event, securing a podium finish for the second consecutive edition of the Asian Para Games.
Competing in the F54 category, Pradeep produced a personal-best throw of 27.45 metres to finish second. His compatriot Ayush, competing in the F53 category, won bronze to give India a double podium finish.

F53 athletes generally have full arm and hand function but limited trunk control and sitting balance. F54 athletes have full upper-body strength in their arms, with varying levels of trunk function, while movement in the legs remains significantly affected. Manish Narwal added another silver medal for India in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event and secured a quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.

The Arjuna Award recipient from Ballabhgarh in Haryana’s Faridabad district scored 233.7 in the eight-man final to finish second. Narwal became the third Indian para-shooter to secure an LA 2028 quota place, following Mona Agarwal and Avani Lekhara, who won gold and silver, respectively, in the women’s 10m air rifle SH1 event on Monday.

India’s Ashok Malik also claimed silver in the men’s 65kg powerlifting event. The 37-year-old lifted 192kg to finish behind China’s Zou Yi, the reigning Paralympic champion, who won gold with an effort of 216kg. Indonesia’s Margono took bronze with a lift of 177kg. Ashok successfully lifted 187kg in his opening attempt and improved to 192kg in his second. However, he failed to lift 201kg in his final attempt.

India add three bronze medals

India also added to their medal tally with bronze medals in athletics and para table tennis. Praveen Kumar won bronze in the men’s shot put F11 event. The 19-year-old registered a throw of 13.86 metres to finish third in a field of six athletes.

In women’s singles para table tennis, Bhavina Patel and Sonal Patel both secured bronze medals after losing their respective semifinal matches. Ravi Baby Sahana and Prachi Pandey also scripted history by becoming India’s first para table tennis players to win medals in the standing category at the Asian Para Games.
