Chinese President Xi Jinping has left Beijing for the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump.
The world is closely watching the meeting with US President Donald Trump. The talks come as tensions over trade, technology, and artificial intelligence have added a new layer to the already complex US-China relationship, putting the meeting under intense global scrutiny.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, during his visit, President Xi will have an in-depth exchange of views with President Trump on major issues concerning bilateral ties and world peace and development.
Xi's entourage includes his wife Peng Liyuan, Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and foreign minister.
The main focus is whether they will signal an extension to a trade truce struck last year that averted a major shock to the global economy. This will be the leaders' second summit this year, following Trump's state visit to Beijing in May.
At the same time, analysts point out that Taiwan will be an important issue in China-US relations, adding that China will continue to remind the US side to approach the Taiwan question with greater prudence.
