Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis said on Thursday that they had launched missile and drone attacks on what they described as ‘a sensitive target’ in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, and on Saudi Aramco facilities in the Red Sea city of Yanbu.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the attacks involved ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones, and claimed that both operations had successfully achieved their goals.
The statement came after Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis towards the southern province of Taif and the Yanbu area on the Red Sea.
There was no immediate Saudi confirmation of an attack on Riyadh or of damage or casualties in either Taif or Yanbu.
Saree said continued Saudi airstrikes on Yemen would not deter the Houthis from what he described as their ‘legitimate right’ to retaliate.
“We will continue to enforce the equation of 'blockade for blockade and escalation for escalation,' targeting the Saudi enemy's troop mobilizations until the aggression stops and the siege on our dear country is lifted," he said.
