United States: Japan urged to fulfil international legal obligations on nuclear non-proliferation
Sun Xiaobo, director-general of the Department of Arms Control of China's Foreign Ministry, said on Thursday that Japan's current administration was accelerating “remilitarisation” and had become a prominent factor threatening regional peace and stability.
Sun made the remarks while attending the First Committee of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
He said Japan's current administration denied its history of aggression, glorified war crimes and paid homage to Second World War war criminals. At the same time, it continued to strengthen its military and expand its armed forces, accelerating “remilitarisation” and becoming a prominent factor threatening regional peace and stability.
Sun said Japan should be urged to reflect deeply on its history of aggression, break completely with militarism, abandon the pursuit of “remilitarisation” and fulfil its international legal obligations on nuclear non-proliferation.
