Munnar, the misty hill station located in the mountain range of the Idukki district in Kerala is the go-to spot for any tourist visiting Kerala. Known for its wide array of wildlife parks, dams with breathtaking waterfalls and lakes, the scenic architecture of Munnar is always a wonder for both its locals and visitors. Let us look into some of the underrated and must visit places here which one can visit for free without any extra cost.

1) Kundala Dam

A picturesque tourist spot for avid travellers, this dam is located almost 20 km from Munnar. Built on the Periyar river with lush green Western Ghats stretch across the river, this site offers sights of cherry blossom trees and the famous Neelakurunji flower range which blooms once every 12 years and is an endemic plant of Western Ghats. The entry to the dam is free while other activities including boat rides and horse safaris are available at extra cost.

2) Marayoor Sandalwood Forest

The only natural sandalwood forest in Kerala, a journey through this forest can refresh your life with the strong aroma of natural sandalwood. Compared to the lush and green areas of Munnar, this specific location is more dry and arid making it an essential atmosphere for the trees to thrive naturally. The government sandalwood factory here gives a glimpse on how the trees are processed and made available into essential goods.
