New Delhi: Amid the ongoing protest by students under the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said strict action would be taken against those involved in the alleged NEET paper leak.
In a post on his official X account, Modi said the government would set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks.
He also asserted that nothing is more important than the welfare and future of the country’s youth.
However, the Prime Minister did not comment on allegations of police brutality against students who participated in the CJP’s “Chalo Sansad” march to Parliament on July 20.
"Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth!
We have decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. I have directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard. This continues our series of measures to safeguard the interests of students.
Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared," Modi wrote on X.
The CJP has been protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi since June 20, demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak.
On July 18, Delhi Police shifted activist Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site to Safdarjung Hospital after doctors advised hospitalisation when his indefinite hunger strike entered its 20th day. Following the move, the CJP intensified its agitation and expanded its demands to include the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in addition to Pradhan.
On July 20, police brutally assaulted students who participated in CJP’s parliament march. As per reports, Delhi police registered five FIRs against the students involved in the march. At the same time, Wangchuk’s hunger strike entered day 25 on Wednesday. The activist said he would end his indefinite hunger strike if the Modi government assures him that no force would be used against the protesting students and no FIRs or other punitive action would be taken against them.
The police action against protesters triggered demonstrations in several parts of the country. Protests were reported from Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and other states, while supporters from across India have been sending food and other essential supplies to protesters at Jantar Mantar in a show of solidarity.
