New Delhi: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day visit during which he will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
This is Tusk's second visit to India as Poland's prime minister, following his earlier visit in 2010.
"A warm welcome to Prime Minister Donald Tusk of Poland on his arrival in New Delhi. He was received at the airport by Minister of State Dr Raj Bhushan Choudhary. The visit will provide fresh impetus to the India-Poland Strategic Partnership and further deepen our longstanding ties," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X.
Tusk will meet Modi on October 22. The two leaders will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations, which were elevated to a Strategic Partnership during Modi's visit to Poland in August 2024, the MEA had said earlier.
According to an advisory issued by the MEA on Wednesday, Tusk is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday morning, followed by a visit to Rajghat, where he will lay a wreath at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial.
He will then proceed to Hyderabad House for talks with Modi, after which the two leaders will issue press statements. They will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The visit is expected to deepen the strategic partnership between India and the European Union, the MEA said on October 19.
Tusk, who is visiting India at Modi's invitation, is accompanied by Andrzej Domanski, Poland's Minister of Finance and Economy, and a large business delegation, according to an earlier ministry statement.
On Thursday evening, Tusk is scheduled to travel to Bengaluru, where he will meet the Karnataka Governor and Chief Minister.
The visit will provide an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, defence, emerging technologies, renewable energy, education, culture and people-to-people ties, the MEA had said.
Tusk also visited New Delhi in 2017 for the India-EU Summit in his capacity as president of the European Council.
