Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Friday ordered a five-year age relaxation for government jobs. The relaxation will remain in effect for five years.
The chief minister ordered the relaxation in response to representations from government job aspirants appearing for competitive examinations, the government said in an official release.
“The age relaxation will be over and above the extant norms that govern age relaxations,” the release added.
The current age limit for Group I services is 32 years for general category candidates and 37 years for reserved category candidates. With the newly announced five-year relaxation, the limits will increase to 37 and 42 years, respectively.
For differently abled candidates in Group I services, the current age limit is 42 years for the general category and 47 years for reserved categories. Following the relaxation, these limits will increase to 47 and 52 years, respectively, the release said.
For Group II and IIA services, reserved category candidates currently have no age limit. The age limit for general category candidates is 30 years, while it is 40 years for differently abled candidates from the general category.

After the relaxation, these limits will increase to 35 and 45 years, respectively, the release added.
The release cited these scenarios as examples of how the five-year relaxation will apply over and above the existing age limits for each group and social category. This implies that the same pattern will apply to other groups and categories.
