United States: US President Donald Trump on Sunday said that America took a "giant step back in history" with the results of the recently-concluded midterm elections in which Democrats swept Congress.
The results were widely seen as a sharp repudiation of Donald Trump as well as the Republican party.
Trump made the comments via his Truthsocial account.
The president further claimed that the stock market had suffered a $3 trillion loss in a single day following the election results.
"America took a giant step back in History with the results of the last Election — Even the Stock Market, which has been a “ROCKETSHIP” under “TRUMP,” took a one day, 3 Trillion Dollar loss," Trump wrote.
Trump promises stronger American comeback
Despite his criticism of the election results, Trump expressed confidence in the country's future under his leadership.
He said the United States would return "bigger and stronger than before" during his presidency.
The US midterm results
The Democrats won both the House and the Senate in the midterm elections, turning the country blue.
With most of the results being called so far, Democrats have won 54 Senate seats and 254 House seats as opposed to the 44 Senate seats and 162 House seats won by the Republican party.
The election, widely seen as a referendum on Trump, dealt a stinging blow to the sitting President and his Grand Old Party (GOP).
