Indonesia is battling its most intense wildfires in 11 years, with Borneo and Sumatra among the worst-hit areas.

Fires across Borneo and Sumatra have exposed millions to hazardous haze, with respiratory illness cases more than doubling since September 1.

The smoke has drifted as far as the Philippines and breached Malaysia's emergency-level air pollution threshold.

At least 108 people were rescued as the search operation expanded around the vessel's last known position.

Former diplomat Mahesh Sachdev said BRICS’ 20-year milestone is a turning point and highlighted India’s role as a bridge between BRICS and the West.

The continuous eruption of Anak Krakatau with lava fountains and loud booms ended Sunday but the volcanic island remained active on Tuesday morning.

Volcanic ash spread across parts of the capital Jakarta and Lampung province on the southern tip of Sumatra island.

Authorities are probing 89 fire cases across Borneo and Sumatra as smoke worsens air quality and drifts into Malaysia.

Authorities intercepted a Tanzania-flagged vessel off Sumatra and found the liquid methamphetamine hidden in drums and water tanks, officials said.

More than 200 have been injured and the health ministry has deployed two field hospital units to deal with the aftermath of the earthquake.

More than 1,300 homes were damaged when the quake struck East Nusa Tenggara province on Saturday, with nearly 250 were destroyed on Flores alone.

Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency said the earthquake and 341 aftershocks had left 53 people dead and 113 others injured.

The US Geological Survey said the quake hit Indonesia's Flores region at a depth of 10 km at 5.58 a.m. local time.
