TikTok billionaire Zhang Yiming has become Asia's richest person, overtaking Gautam Adani. Yiming is the founder of TikTok's parent company, ByteDance.
Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which is a daily ranking of the world's richest people, has placed the 43-year-old internet entrepreneur ahead of Adani. Yiming, whose fortunes reportedly increased by $12 billion this month, has a total net worth of $105 billion.
According to reports, Yiming's wealth is tied to the growing influence of AI and short-video platforms. In June, Yiming had surpassed Mukesh Ambani to become Asia's second-richest. He had already been China's richest since October 2024.
Although TikTok has a huge global presence, it is not legal in India as the country banned the social media platform, along with at least 50 other Chinese apps in 2020, citing concerns related to security and sovereignty.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk remains the world's richest, with a net worth of $892 billion. Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have $295B and $274B in net worth respectively.
