Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Sunday said that there will be no compromise with road safety and strict action will be taken against "reckless driving and dangerous racing between private buses" on state roads.

Satheesan, in an X post, said that such dangerous driving by private buses puts precious lives at risk and accidents caused by them leave families devastated.

His post comes in the wake of road accidents involving private transport buses in the state, especially in Kochi, with a police officer on traffic duty being seriously injured in the port city a day ago after allegedly being hit by a speeding private bus.

"Reckless driving and dangerous racing between private buses on our roads are putting precious lives at risk. Every accident leaves families devastated, and every life lost is an irreplaceable tragedy. This must stop. We cannot afford to lose even one more life to reckless driving or traffic violations," the CM said.

He said that strict instructions have been issued to the police and the Motor Vehicles Department to intensify enforcement and take firm action against violators.

"Police Clearance Certificates and Smart IDs have also been made mandatory for private bus staff. Let this be a reminder to every road user: Someone is waiting for you at home. No journey, no destination and no moment of haste is worth more than a human life," he said.
